This Privacy Policy applies to Geepers (ABN 15 968 140 556) of New South Wales, Australia ("Geepers", "we", "us", "our") and to the Geepers platform, website and apps (the "Platform").
It explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information, and how you can access, correct or complain about it. By using the Platform you agree to this Policy, which forms part of our Terms of Use.
We collect only the information we need to provide the Platform:
- Account information — your name, email address and, if you provide it, your phone number and password (stored in encrypted form).
- Geep content — the names, addresses, coordinates, notes and any photos or details you add to your Geeps.
- Location information — the coordinates you set for a Geep, and, if you use live-location features (such as a ".now" Geep), your device location at the times you choose to share it.
- Usage information — basic events such as navigations, Geep creations and share-link clicks, plus technical data like your device type, browser and IP address.
- Communications — messages you send us, such as support or safety reports.
Real-time location can reveal where you are, so we treat live-location data with particular care. We collect and share it only with your consent — for example, when you choose to publish a live Geep or share it with specific people — and you can turn it off or delete it at any time.
We collect personal information directly from you when you create an account, create or share Geeps, use the app, or contact us. Some technical information is collected automatically as you use the Platform. If we ever receive information about you from someone else (for example, if another user invites you), we handle it under this Policy.
We use your personal information to:
- create and manage your account and Geeps;
- resolve and display Geeps for you and the people you share them with;
- provide live-location and navigation features you switch on;
- keep the Platform secure and prevent misuse, fraud and abuse;
- respond to your enquiries and safety reports;
- understand and improve the Platform using aggregated, de-identified insights; and
- meet our legal obligations.
You control who sees your Geeps. Public Geeps are visible to anyone; Shared Geeps are visible only to the people you choose; Private Geeps are visible only to you. You can change visibility or delete any Geep at any time.
We disclose personal information only:
- to other users, as directed by your own sharing choices;
- to service providers who help us run the Platform (such as cloud hosting, database, email and SMS providers), under obligations of confidentiality and only as needed to provide their service;
- where required or authorised by law, or to protect the safety of a person or the public; and
- with your consent.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your individual data for advertising or share it for others' advertising.
Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we disclose personal information to an overseas recipient, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles. By using the Platform, you acknowledge that your information may be stored or processed overseas.
We may send you service messages (such as security, account and Geep-lifecycle notices), which are part of using the Platform. If we send you optional updates or news, you can opt out at any time using the unsubscribe link or by emailing privacy@geepers.io. We do not use sensitive information for direct marketing.
We store your data on secure servers and use encryption and access controls to protect it. Access is restricted to what is needed to operate the Platform. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and to destroy or de-identify it when it is no longer needed.
We keep personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law. When you delete a Geep or close your account, we delete or de-identify the associated personal information, except for limited copies retained in routine backups for a short period or where the law requires us to keep them.
You have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. Much of it you can view and edit directly in the app. For anything else, contact privacy@geepers.io and we will respond within a reasonable time. If we cannot give access or make a correction, we will explain why.
The Platform uses cookies and similar local storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences, and uses basic, aggregated analytics to understand how the Platform is used. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not work without them. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.
The Platform is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe we have, please contact privacy@geepers.io and we will delete it.
If a data breach involving your personal information is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required by the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
If you have a privacy concern, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@geepers.io. We will acknowledge your complaint and aim to resolve it within a reasonable time.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or by phone on 1300 363 992.
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and, for material changes, notify registered users by email or in-app. The "Last updated" date above shows when it last changed.
